HPV Vaccine

The HPV vaccine, also known as Gardisil, is a vaccine that is recommended, and is required for green cards, for girls/women ages 11-26.  Females, 18 years old and younger, can receive the vaccine as part of the Vaccine for Children (VFC program).  For females over the age of 18, the vaccine is covered by Medicaid.  However, the vaccine schedule is over six months time.   Gardisil #1 given
Gardisil #2 given 2 months after #1
Gardisil #3 given 4 months after #2   The accelerated schedule is:
Gardisil #1
Gardisil #2 given 1 month after #1
Gardisil #3 given 3 months after #2

The accelerated schedule decreases the duration of the vaccine schedule to four months, but Medicaid may not be willing to pay for the accelerated schedule.   The cost of each vaccine is approximately $150.  It is do-able for someone to receive all three vaccines in the six month time frame.  Additionally, if a woman is going to turn 27 close to the time of her green card application, then she may as well wait an extra little bit and that way she doesn't have to get the vaccine at all.
